An Unconventional but Proven Way to Recover from a Hamstring or Quad Injury

February 23, 2014 By Complete Runner

bonk

Not too long ago a middle-aged woman came in with a hamstring injury that she just couldn’t get over.  Not only are these injuries painful, but they can take weeks or months to fully recover, putting a damper on your running plans for some time.  This woman tried everything yet her condition wasn’t improving.

We offered her some advice, and she was able to fully recover quickly and start running again.  So, what did we tell her?

We told her to wear a pair of CW-X tights all the time.  That is it.

So, why did this work?  It is really a matter of compression and support.

Compression

Compression wear helps to increase circulation in the legs, not only preventing cramping during a race but carrying away the inflammation to aid in faster recovery.  That’s right, faster recovery.

Support

In the same way you would wear a cast to support your broken arm, CW-X tights take compression to a whole new level.  Their innovative tights are made in a way to grab all your major muscle groups to keep them supported in the proper position, not only making your run more efficiently during a race but also helping you recover more effectively with your muscles in the right position.

So, by having the proper support and compression on her injury at all times, just like a cast on a broken arm, she was able to recover quickly from her hamstring injury.

It is really quite amazing how the right running tech wear and clothes can not only help you to perform your best, but also recover from a race or a serious injury!

Use Compression to Speed Up Recovery and Improve Race Performance

March 11, 2012 By Complete Runner

CEP Compression Socks

What’s the big deal about compression?

It seems like everyone is talking about compression these days.  In fact, we’ve carried compression products for years and were a little ahead of the demand before customers started buying.  Now, we can barely keep compression in stock!  So what is compression, and how can your running benefit from it?

The theory behind compression

Compression is really two fold.  First, compression is great for recovery.  The theory is that compression forces the blood in your legs to flush out the lactic acid built up from racing or working out to improve and speed up your recovery.  Second, runners are now using compression during the race.  For example, compression socks will keep your blood flowing to help prevent your calves from cramping and knotting up to improve performance.

How to use compression

Whether you decide to use compression for recovery or during your race, you need to make sure you purchase the correct product for your needs.  Compression used for recovery is stronger and tighter than compression used during your race.  There are actually different grades of compression, from medical to athletic grades, and the kind you need depends on its use as well as performance.  Complete Runner carries compression from CW-X, CEP, Zenzah, and others including socks, calf sleeves, shorts, and three-quarter and full length tights, and we’ll be glad to help you decide what kind of compression is best for you.

Oh, and by the way, spandex doesn’t count.
